Dear ZM Parents, Families and Community Members,
I know how important advance notice is for family planning, so I wanted to share this information as early as possible today. Due to the predicted extreme cold weather tomorrow, Friday, January 23rd, Zumbrota–Mazeppa Public Schools will not have an in-person school day. According to the National Weather Service, wind chills could reach -44°F, far exceeding our established safety limits of -20°F air temperature and -35°F wind chill.
Instead, tomorrow will be a “Weather Impacted Learning Day” for all students. This decision was made with student safety in mind, particularly related to transportation, outdoor exposure, and overall travel conditions.
Please note that Cougar Care and Bright Beginnings will remain open from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for families who need childcare support.
All activities scheduled for this evening, Thursday, January 22, will proceed as scheduled. Please continue to monitor our district website, social media, and school communications for any additional updates on weekend and evening activities.
Thank you for your understanding and partnership as we continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and staff.
Sincerely,
Ryan Barnick
Superintendent
