The 76th Annual Dorian Vocal Festival at Luther College in Decorah, IA was held on January 11th and 12th. Two Zumbrota-Mazeppa students were selected to attend the festival. They included Kirt Rude and Tommy Helfer. These students were 2 out of over 900 that attended this festival. Students rehearsed both Sunday and Monday on their mixed choral pieces with director Andrew Last, women’s piece with guest conductor Jennaya Robison and the men’s piece with Mark Potvin. Andrew Last chose vocal pieces for the mixed choir which included “We Lift Up Out Voices" by Karen Marrolli, "All is Miracle" by Kyle Pederson, and "I'll Fly Away" arranged by Brandon Boyd. Along with the three SATB pieces, the men’s chorus sang “Down in the Valley" arranged by George Mead, and the women’s chorus sang “Keep Yo' Lamps" arranged by Rosephanye Powell. The Zumbrota-Mazeppa high school students attended a concert on Sunday evening in which the Indian Trail High School and Academy Chorale from Kenosha, Wisconsin and two all freshmen Luther College choirs performed. One Zumbrota-Mazeppa student also received an individual voice lesson with a Luther College vocal professor. On Monday night, the Festival Grand Concert was held at 5pm. At the concert, the Luther College Nordic Choir, select high school vocalists, and the High School Festival Choir performed at this beautiful concert. The overall sound was amazing and the students enjoyed themselves immensely.

Congratulations to our ZM AAA Award winners, Cain Lexvold and Breanna Moran. The MSHSL Academics, Arts and Athletics award is given annually to seniors across the state that excel in all three areas. Breanna Moran was also named the Region 1A, Sub-Section 4 winner and is a finalist for the Section AAA award. Congratulations to Cain and Breanna!

Zumbrota-Mazeppa students took part in the Harmony on the River Youth Barbershop Festival.

UPDATE!
Dear ZM Families,
I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause your family and for the multiple updates this morning. After further consultation with our transportation coordinator, we have made the decision to close ZM Schools today, Tuesday, January 6th. I have been informed that given current conditions, our buses will be unable to safely operate on gravel roads this morning. It is important to know that 10 of our 11 bus routes travel on gravel roads each day to transport our students.
Cougar Care and Bright Beginnings will open at 7:00am and close at 4:00pm today. There will be no AM or PM Preschool.
I understand the challenges this creates for families, and I appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to prioritize the safety of our students above all else.
All other updates, delays, or cancellations affiliated with the school will be posted to the ZM website and Facebook page.

Good morning ZM Families,
I apologize for the late notice as I understand the importance of letting you know as early as possible. I just returned from checking road conditions, and unfortunately roads are again extremely icy this morning. Thus, ZM Schools will operate on a 2-hour late start today.
The good news is that roads are currently being treated, and based on the 3:45 a.m. weather update from the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to rise to approximately 34–35 degrees by 10:00 a.m.
