Timeline

Zumbrota - Mazeppa Public Schools have formally begun the Strategic Planning process, which will result in a 3 - 5 year plan that defines the school district’s goals, actions in regard to how the district will achieve those goals, and how the aforementioned goals will be assessed.  The first Strategic Task Force planning meeting took place this past Wednesday evening, January 17th, 2024. Approximately 40 community members participated in the meeting, including parents, students, business owners, teachers, administrators, senior citizens, members of the local faith community, and city government officials.  Ryan Barnick, Superintendent, started off the meeting with a brief welcome before transitioning to Dr. David Thompson, an education consultant from Nexus Solutions, who facilitated the remainder of the session.  Superintendent Barnick stated, “With strategic planning, it is important that we elicit input from community members that represent all aspects of our community.  Thus, we were very purposeful in creating a team consisting of a wide array of community members that represented our community as a whole.  I am most proud of the fact that we had student representation as students are the foundation of all decisions we make in Zumbrota - Mazeppa Schools.”  

Information was shared about the purpose and benefits of Strategic Planning, along with an overview of the planning process. Participants worked in small groups and were asked to answer the following three questions: 

  1. What great things are happening within the Zumbrota - Mazeppa school district? 
  2. What are the biggest challenges facing Zumbrota - Mazeppa?
  3. What educational program, activity or facility changes are needed to ensure future student achievement and District success at Zumbrota-Mazeppa Public Schools?

Based on the responses provided, emerging themes will be identified and prioritized at the second Task Force meeting to be held Tuesday, February 13th.
